The Associate Director of Digital at MESH is pivotal in developing and executing innovative digital strategies that drive impactful results and align seamlessly with our clients’ marketing and strategic goals. This position involves leading the agency’s digital services from discovery to reporting while fostering a collaborative environment that encourages creativity and ensures that all digital initiatives resonate with the client’s brand identity. The Associate Director of Digital will prioritize exploration of emerging digital trends, seeking out new channels and technologies to deliver fresh and compelling products. They will work closely with cross-functional teams, bridging the gap between creative ideas and actionable digital products, ensuring that all projects are executed to the highest quality standards. A strong communicator and a proactive problem-solver, the ideal candidate will partner closely with clients, listening attentively to their needs and delivering innovative digital experiences that exceed expectations while effectively engaging target audiences. We are looking for a leader who can align execution through detailed digital strategies, guiding the team with a clear vision and robust campaign frameworks to ensure success across all digital platforms.

Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee the agency’s quality and delivery of digital work, ensuring alignment with client expectations, audience engagement, and brand identity.
  • Lead the development of digital strategies and audits
  • Ensure that all digital content adheres to established visual and verbal brand guidelines, maintaining consistency across online platforms.
  • Facilitate creative and digital unification by collaborating with the creative team on pitches and projects, ensuring that innovative digital solutions are integrated into overall creative strategies.
  • Manage the digital staff and product, ensuring all digital operations meet agency standards, including comprehensive time tracking, management of PTO requests, and execution of professional development plans for team members.
  • Conduct monthly one-on-one check-ins with direct reports, alongside quarterly and annual performance reviews.
  • Collaborate with creative and project management teams to ensure that the quality of digital work is central to product delivery, working with other discipline leaders to maintain high standards across the agency.
  • Develop a talent pipeline for digital team members by engaging universities, freelancers, and interns, and overseeing the recruitment of new digital staff as needed.
  • Ensure you and your team deliver on +1 digital ideation for each client, collaborating with client services to identify and capture opportunities while proactively creating pitch decks that reflect these insights.
  • Oversee digital team revenue goals, working collaboratively across departments to achieve overall agency revenue targets.
  • Consult with strategy and brand management teams to develop innovative digital solutions that effectively engage and excite clients.
  • Maintain client satisfaction by ensuring high-quality digital deliverables and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Research, secure, and oversee the implementation of A.I. technology and other emerging digital tools for creative and digital execution, enhancing efficiency and product effectiveness while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Assess and create efficiencies in digital workflow processes to ensure optimal time management and allocation on client projects.

Creative Direction, Development, & Concepting:

  • Develop consistently superior digital products and content that meet and exceed client expectations.
  • Exhibit leadership in executing fresh, innovative digital concepts that enhance response strategies and drive measurable results for clients.
  • Work alongside other leadership and client services to create award-winning digital experiences that meet communication needs and align with strategic initiatives.
  • Guide digital teams through the process of digital strategy, ideation, implementation and measurement, adhering to departmental processes and best practices.
  • Ensure all timelines are met, delivering high-quality digital experiences to clients while monitoring project schedules and team workflow.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, audience insights, and emerging digital channels to ensure the adoption of best practices for both digital and traditional marketing products.

Communication & Leadership Duties:

  • Support new business sales pitches targeting digital services to drive revenue, developing, presenting, and selling digital solutions to clients.
  • Clearly communicate the digital rationale behind strategies to clients, articulating the business reasons for each decision while actively listening to client feedback and developing responsive solutions.
  • Collaborate with Creative and Project Management teams to advance digital projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality creative outputs within budget constraints.
  • Work closely with Client Services and team members to identify critical project information and questions necessary for executing digital assignments.
  • Manage freelancers and contractors in digital projects, ensuring their work meets MESH standards through clear communication of feedback and constructive oversight.
  • Mentor and inspire digital teams to maximize their potential, fostering a culture of problem-solving and creative excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years managing digital teams in a marketing agency or a combination of agency/vendor side experience
  • 5+ years of digital marketing experience
  • Must have strong experience in integrated campaigns, website development, social media and email marketing
  • Superior strategic thinking skills (written, visual and conceptual)
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines and juggle multiple priorities
  • Excellent client service and presentation skills
  • Self-starter and a positive interaction with a wide range of individuals is expected
  • Moderate knowledge of Google Workspace & Microsoft Office applications
  • Broad understanding of branding, marketing analytics, web accessibility, and cyber security
  • Strong corporate identity and branding experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of digital channels such as paid and organic social, web, search engine optimization, and email, as well as a basic understanding of user experience across multi-channel touchpoints
  • Knowledge of principles and best practices for all marketing
